Gulu’s Light Ray Primary Scraps First term Fees

Pupils of Voice of Hope in Gulu heading home after the closer of schools

On a rare note, all continuing pupils of Light Ray Nursery and Primary School in Obiya West cell, Bardege-Layibi Division in Gulu city have been exempted them from paying school fees this term.

Schools across the country reopened on Monday after nearly two years since schools were closed following an outbreak of coronavirus in March 2020.

Scores of learners are yet to report to school due to financial challenges as some schools have increased fees citing high operational costs.

Primary school pupils at Light Ray pay 120,000 shillings as school fees while nursery pupils pay 100,000 shillings per term.

Lamunu Ketty, the head teacher of Light Ray in the primary section says that learners will only be expected to pay feeding costs of 60,000 shillings per term.

Lamunu said the offer was made with support from their partners based in Germany adding that parents will be required to pay half of the fees in second term and return to paying full fees in third term.

At least 256 out of 273 learners in primary and 263 out of the previous 200 learners in Nursery section had returned to school by yesterday (Wednesday).
