Gulu City Gets Interim City Mayor
George Labeja was on Thursday sworn in office as the interim City Mayor of the newly created Gulu city.
Labeja was the Mayor of Gulu municipal council before it was elevated to a city on July, 1, 2020.
He was sworn in office by the Permanent secretary Ministry of local government Ben Kumumanya at Churchill Courts Hotel in Gulu.
According to the guideline, Labeja also becomes the interim speaker of the city council affective today.
Labeja is now expected to nominate among members of the council the interim deputy mayor and interim executive committee.
The city council is also expected to sit and guide the selection of the interim chairpersons for the two city divisions of Laroo-Pece and Bardege-Layibi.
According to the guideline, the interim division chairperson shall be the chairperson of the former municipal division hosting the city division council headquarters.
