Intern Doctors at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital have joined their counterparts across the country in a sit-down strike over poor allowance.
Gulu Regional Referral Hospital has 18 intern doctors, 8 intern pharmacists, 8 intern nurses and 8 intern midwives.
The Acting Hospital Director, Dr Oyella Florence said that they are now relying on only the substantive medical officers since the interns went on strike on Monday.
She said that all the interns refused to turn up for a meeting with the hospital authorities on Wednesday.
Oyella said that some few interns who were still willing to work were being intimidated by their colleagues.
Meanwhile, the leaders of interns at Gulu Hospital, Dr. Ochen Paul told Mega Fm that they will not resume work until their allowance is increased from 750,000 to 3 million shillings, as promised by parliament in 2019.
Ochen explained that they could not meet the hospital authority because their matter can only be handled by the ministry of health which is now scheduling a meeting with President Yoweri Museveni.
