Gulu Business Women Seek For Empowerment From UN

Rosa Malango on a recent visit to Gulu met business women including Mega Fm' station manager-Irene Atek.

Rosa Malango, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uganda has advised business women in Gulu to operate their enterprises in a group for easy access to the foreign market.

Malango who met women over 50 leaders of different business groups at Post Office in Gulu on Tuesday said that its easy for the women to get tax exemptions from Uganda Revenue Authority if they are in one group.

She was responding to requests by the business women leaders for empowerment to grow their businesses.

Norah Nyeko, the director of Lamaro studios that deals in art and craft business says they want to be empowered in leadership skills, connection to the foreign market and also be given tax exemptions for products that are they export.

Immaculate Adong, the director Wawoto Kacel Cooperative Society that also deals in art and crafts requested the United Nation for support in capacity building, value addition and creation of marketing strategies.

Malango said that her office would raise the matter of tax exemption with URA and accordingly directed the women to write a formal letter to URA through her office.
