Opit Secondary School Construction Project Stalls

The construction of a 500 million shillings Opit Secondary School project in Omoro district by the Ministry of Education and Sports has stalled.

A four month project awarded to Muteco International Limited was supposed to kick off in January 2021. However, the contractor started work in May 2021 but stopped less than a month due to failure by the Education Ministry to release funds.

The project component include the construction of eight classrooms at 257 million shillings, 5 stance VIP Latrines at 66.3 million shillings and 2 units’ science rooms at 108 million shillings.

Joseph Otim, the site Engineer Muteco International Company Limited says the work stalled when 40% of the work already done.

However, Douglas Tumwine, the Project manager at the Education Ministry says the money meant for the project was taken back to treasury because the contractor started the work late when the financial year was ending.
