A 24-year-old man on Wednesday committed suicide in Paduny village in Awach sub county, Gulu district after battering his wife and in-law.
The deceased, Patrick Okech was found hanging dead on a tree near Alworo swamp in Paduny village at around 9;00am.
It is alleged that the deceased on Tuesday evening fought his wife identified as Atim Rose over unclear reasons harming seriously on the left arm.
Atim reportedly managed to escape and went to her husband’s uncle’s home but was followed by the deceased who continued to beat her and also used a panga to hack his uncle’s wife identified as Nakato Rose.
A case of assault was reported against him at Awach Police Station under SD 08/26/05/2021.
Richard Watmon, the outgoing Local Council three chairperson said the deceased decided to commit suicide after learning that his case was reported to police.
He said police who rushed to the scene retrieved the body, did a postmortem and handed it to relatives for burial.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region Police spokesperson confirmed the report.
This brings to five, the number of suicide cases committed in a space of just one week in Aswa River Region.
