Bus Evacuating Covid-19 Patients Catches Fire At Koro

A bus carrying Covid-19 patients to Kampala for treatment caught fire this afternoon at Koro Abili village in Omoro district.

A bus evacuating Covid-19 patients from Kitgum to Namboole in Kampala for treatment this afternoon caught fire while at Koro Abili village, Koro Sub County, Omoro district-along Gulu-Kampala highway.

Police says there were 25 patients in the bus belonging to parliament of Uganda registration number UG 0391/H.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Region Police spokesperson says the police fire brigade rushed to the scene and put out the fire.

Odong Justin Obiya, the L.C111 Chairman Koro said police and health workers were on site to prevent the patients from mixing with the community.

The patients were being evacuated to Namboole auxiliary treatment center due to lack of space at Gulu treatment center.

Gulu treatment center with a capacity for 100 patients is now crowded with 123 Covid-19 patients from all corners of the Acholi sub-region.

Meanwhile, 20 covid-19 patients who were within the community in Gulu were today evacuated to Namboole for treatment.

Michael Cankara, Gulu district surveillance officer says they are looking for 8 more patients who have either switched off their phones or refused to pick up when called by the taskforce.
