A woman and her one-week-old baby have drowned in a stream in Omoti village in Patiko Subcounty, Gulu District.
Nancy Adokorach drowned on Thursday while attempting to cross Abera stream heading to Awach Health Center 1V to vaccinate the baby.
According to Patiko Sub County authorities, Adokorach was also accompanied by her three-year-old daughter who survived because the deceased left her at the banks of the stream to try and first cross with the baby.
Komakech Patrick, the L.C3 Chairperson Patiko Subcounty says that people who were digging at around 8am yesterday found out about the incident after seeing the 3-year-old girl stranded.
Komakech said Adokorach’s body was retrieved yesterday while the newborn’s body was discovered today.
He has now urged the community there not to risk crossing the stream because of the current heavy rains.
