Uganda Cranes Aim To Seal 2021 Afcon Qualification

Uganda Cranes will today host Burkina Faso at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende for the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Cranes will be looking for three points to secure their slot for the Afcon finals that will be held next year in Cameron.

The team has already lost a couple of players Khalid Aucho who was last week dismissed from camp, Uche Mubiru who earlier withdrew and lately Bavis Mugabi who will miss out due to injury.

But Coach Abdallah Mubiru says that the spirits are high in the camp. He adds that there is no time to replace the absent players because he is confident that the available players in the camp will perform well.

Jackson Mayanja, Uganda Cranes ex-international says the matter of player arriving late will not hugely affect the National team because they have been playing actively playing for their clubs.

Mayanja says that since the cranes have the advantage of being home, they need to score earlier to relive the pressure and contain their win.

Emmanuel Okwi, Uganda Cranes striker says it will not be an easy game, but the team will work hard to secure their spot into the finals. He adds that the team is well and ready to fight for the flag.

Mubiru made several changes and brought back players who missed the last two games against South Sudan. They include Murushid Jjuuko, Waiswa Moses, Kaddu Patrick and Abdu Lumala.

Kaddu’s sole goal against Cape Verde secured Uganda’s slot in the 2019 Afcon finals.

Moses Waiswa, Uganda Cranes midfielder who returned to the team after almost a year says the team is considering the home game because it is more pivotal, he adds that the atmosphere during training has been good. Mubiru says the team must work hard to defeat Burkina Faso.

The team will however miss midfielder Aucho who was dismissed from Camp after failing to comply with the team’s code of conduct. Aucho is one of the most capped players on the national team after taking part in the last two Afcon finals.

Uganda Cranes is second in group B with 7 points, one point below group leaders Burkina Faso.
