Two teenage girls are in hiding in Agago district after allegedly aborting a baby and dropped it in a latrine.
The girls aged 15 and 17 are all residents of Lungetel village, Litakato sub county in Agago district.
Peter Odok, the L.C 111 vice chairperson Lira-Kato Sub County said that the 15-year-old girl was helped by the 17-year-old to abort a four months old pregnancy on Tuesday.
Odok explained that the 15-year-old who is a primary five pupil narrated how her friend gave her a concoction which caused the abortion and that they dropped the fetus in the latrine because she was afraid.
He said that the teenagers fled after the matter was reported to Lapono police post.
A police officer at Lapono police post who requested to speak anonymously confirmed that the case has been reported and investigations are ongoing.
Abortion is illegal in Uganda unless performed by a licensed medical doctor in a situation where the woman’s life is deemed to be at risk.
