Amuru RDC,Oceng

Trucks have continued to pile at Elegu border town in Amuru district in protest, days after armed attacks on Uganda truck drivers in South Sudan.

The killing of Ugandan truck drivers by armed men in South Sudan started from March 28th, 30th, 31st and the last case was reported on April 1st, 2021.

Uganda has so far received nine bodies including four killed in Ganji Lanya County along the Yei-Juba road in South Sudan.

As a result, truck drivers have decided to stage a strike in Elegu border town protesting the continued attacks.

Currently, more than 4000 trucks have parked at the BLD Parking lot and along the main road and streets within Elegu town council.

Geoffrey Oceng Osborn, the Amuru Resident District Commissioner told Mega Fm that he has directed Uganda Revenue Authority not to release trucks crossing from Kenya en-route to South Sudan because there is no parking space at Elegu.

Recently, parliament demanded a report on the dead Ugandans following the attacks in South Sudan.
