Police in Oyam district are holding a midwife attached to Iceme Health center II in Iceme Sub County allegedly for abuse of office.
Conny Atim was picked on Monday afternoon allegedly for taking pregnant women who had gone for antenatal care at the health unit to work in her garden. It’s alleged that Atim took over 15 pregnant women who turned up for antenatal care to go and uproot soya bean in her garden.
Nicholas Opio Awelo, the LCIII Chairperson of Iceme Sub County says that the pregnant women revealed to him that Atim put them on pressure that she cannot work on them unless they go and harvest her soya bean.
Johnson Wandinda, the officer in charge of Iceme police station has confirmed the arrest but declines to give more details.
According to the Anti-Corruption Act, 2009, a person who, being employed in a public body does or directs to be done an arbitrary act prejudicial to the interests of his or her employer or of any other person, in abuse of the authority of his or her office, commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a term of imprisonment not exceeding seven years or a fine not exceeding one hundred and sixty eight currency points or both.
