Gulu Hospital Discharges First Covid-19 Patient

Gulu Regional Referral Hospital has today discharged its first covid-19 patient, a 41 year old truck driver, after he recovered from COVID-19.

The resident of Wakiso district in central Uganda tested negative to the coronavirus after 21 days of treatment and 72 hours of tests.

According to Dr. James Elima, the hospital director, the patient is in good health but still traumatized and afraid of stigma.

He is still expected to undergo a mandatory 14 days self-isolation before he can fully reintegrate in the community.

Uganda currently has 145 positive Ugandans and 14 of these are currently at Gulu regional hospital, with 66 recovered and zero death.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization WHO will dispatch two physicians at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital to boost the hospital in the fight against COVID-19.

Dr James Elima, the hospital Director lauded the intervention of WHO adding that the two physicians are expected to complement the work of Dr Paska Apiyo ’s work, who is the only physician at the treatment centre.
