FUFA Asks Mcknistry to Step Down For One Month

The Federation of Uganda Football Association-FUFA has asked Uganda Cranes head Coach, Johnathan McKinstry to step down for a month until the end of March 2021.

This is contained in a March 2nd press statement issued by the Federation citing a decision by the FUFA executive.

In the meantime, the federation has appointed Uganda Cranes Assistant Head coach, Abdallah Mubiru, Livingston Mbabazi and Fred Kajoba to take over the team in the interim.

The decision by FUFA follows Uganda’s poor performance at the just concluded African Nations championship where the national team failed to win a single game.

The development comes ahead of Uganda’s Afcon 2021 qualifier against Burkina Faso and Malawi later this month.

Mcknistry took over as the Uganda Cranes head coach on September 30th, 2019.

He signed a three-year contract as Uganda Cranes head coach replacing French national Sebastien Desabre who took up a new position at Pyramids FC in Egypt in July 2019.  He guided Uganda to victory in the 2019 CECAFA championship winning all the 6 games throughout the tournament.
