At least 51 people committed suicide in Acholi Sub region by ingesting poison in the last nine months.
The victims include 34 men and 17 women.
Freddy Odong, the project officer for suicide awareness and prevention project under Gulu Sheffield mental health project at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital says majority of suicide victims prefer poison because it’s fast.
Odong has now called on policy makers to restrict the sale of chemicals to individuals in order to reduce on suicide.
Statistics from Gulu Sheffield mental health project also show that 26 people committed suicide by hanging, two by drowning, and one by shooting between January and October.
