UXO

Three children on Monday sustained serious injuries after an object suspected to be a bomb which they were playing with exploded and injured them in Agago district.

The 10am incident happened in Odemikeyo village, Agengo Sub County.

The injured children include Onyango Sam, aged 9 months, Samuel Okidi, aged 12, and Oloya John (10)

According to Oromokecha Simon, the Sub-County LC III Chairperson, the minors picked an unexploded ordinance from the nearby bush at Ywewii trading centre in Alwee parish and hid it for two days from their parents.

He says that Okidi lost two fingers while Onyango and Oloya sustained injuries on their tummies.

They were all rushed to Dr. Ambrosoli memorial hospital Kalongo for treatment.

In 2017, six children from the same family in Pader District sustained severe wounds after an object suspected to be a bomb which they were playing with exploded and injured them at Libi village, in Angagura Sub County.

And in 2019, a bomb exploded in Latigi parish, Latanya Sub County in Pader district killing one person.

Security personnel believe there are still thousands of ordinances within the region that were planted or failed to explode during the two-decade fights between LRA rebels and government forces.
