Star Light School Nwoya Closed, Pupils Stranded

Nwoya district local council authority has closed Star Light Nursery and Primary school, a private school, for operating illegally, leaving at least 86 pupils stranded.

The school, in Lii sub county, was closed indefinitely on Wednesday for also operating below the minimum standard set by the Ministry of Education and Sports

The school was found operating without teacher’s latrine, pupils were sharing a single latrine without roof top and a door, no qualified teachers, pupils studying in a deplorable classroom building and sleeping in grass thatched hostel.

Nwoya district inspector of school Phonic Onekalit Kidega says the school will only be re-opened upon meeting the minimum standard set by the Education Ministry.

Meanwhile, Nwoya resident district commissioner Akello Agnes Ebong has warned proprietors of private schools against putting lives of pupils at risk.
