Mp Odonga Otto Being Arrested By Police In Gulu Last Year

Four people including two members of parliament (MP) from Acholi sub region were on Monday morning arrested allegedly for inciting violence and defying the presidential directive on public gathering.

They include Gilbert Olanya, the Kilak County MP, Odonga Otto (Aruu County), Kelly Komakech, the LCIII chairperson Pece division in Gulu Municipality and a lady identified as Stela Kijange from Nwoya district.

They were arrested from Cereleno market on Gulu-Kampala highway and were being held at Gulu central police station.

The four were allegedly protesting the continued admission of Covid-19 patients at Gulu regional referral hospital and the government decision to allow truck drivers to continue plying Gulu-Juba highway which they claim is putting lives of the local community at risk of contracting the deadly Covid-19.

The hospital is currently treating 65 active cases. All but two were truck drivers who were evacuated from Elegu border town in Amuru district.

The Aswa river region police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema also said the four on Sunday night inciting the local community to block the Gulu-Juba highway at For-God in Gulu Municipality where they burnt tyrs in the middle of the road.

This is not the first time leaders from the region is protesting the admission of Covid-19 patients at Gulu regional referral hospital.

On April, 16, Leaders from Acholi blocked an ambulance that was evacuating a cargo truck driver who tested positive for to Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
