The Executive Director of St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu, Dr. Cyprian Opira is under self quarantining after his return from Italy.
A close source revealed that Opira who returned from Italy on March 11th traveled from Entebbe International Airport to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in a special ambulance where he is currently being isolated and monitored for signs of the Coronavirus (COVID -19).
With 24,747 cases and 1,809 deaths by Sunday, Italy’s experience has offered an alarming example for other European countries which begun experiencing sharp rise in COVID -19 cases over recent days.
Josephine Anying, the Communication Officer of St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor told Mega Fm in an interview that though Dr. Opira has not shown any signs of COVID -19, his isolation is a mandatory pre –cautionary measure directed by the Ministry of Health.
She adds that Opira will be in isolation for 14 days as recommended by health experts.
The 14 days self –quarantine provides enough time to know whether or not suspected patients will become ill and be contagious to other people.
