Gulu Suspends Renovation Works Worth UGX 369M Over COVID

The renovation of Gulu District administration block has suffered a setback because of the corona virus pandemic.

Last year, Gulu district signed a memorandum of understanding with China International Construction Company (CICO) to renovate the block at Shillings 369 million, which started in February this year.

The works are part of CICO`s Cooperate Social Responsibility to the district.

However, the works were suspended indefinitely last week in adherence with the coronavirus preventive guidelines announced by government.

The guidelines include a ban on public transport, public gathering and enforcing a social distance of at least 2 meters for 32 days.

Uganda has since registered 33 COVID cases.

Meanwhile, South Sudanese refugees continue entering Uganda despite the closure of the country`s borders.

However, Titus Jogo, the Adjumani Refugee Desk Officer told Mega Fm over the weekend that they receive between 30-34 South Sudanese nationals on daily basis.

In the latest development, 17 people have been issued discharge certificates after completing 14-days’ mandatory self-quarantine period as a safeguard against the deadly Coronavirus.

At least 36 people have been under self and institutional quarantine at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu.
