300 hectors of trees cleared for charcoal burning

At least 300 acres of trees were indiscriminately cut down by commercial charcoal dealers in Oroko village, Palaro Sub County Gulu district within a period of three weeks, according to officials
On Friday, a team of district officials raided the village and arrested 15 of them and also impounded several bags of charcoals.

There were over 50 charcoal dealers burning charcoal in Oroko.
Recently, Gulu district banned commercial charcoal burning in the district after the national forest authority warned that within 15-20 years, the district will turn into a desert if deforestation is not controlled.
