At least 17 teenage girls in Coorom parish in Koch-goma Sub County, Nwoya district may not return to school when it’s reopened after conceiving following the disruptions of studies caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Charles Ocaya, the councilor3 Coorom parish who doubles as the secretary health and education, some of the girls have already been married off.
Data from Nwoya district local government indicates that a total of 925 teenage girls got pregnant during the first and the second Covid-19 lockdown.
The pandemic has interrupted the education of over 1.5 million learners in Uganda after Government took drastic measures to close all educational institutions of learning to curtail the spread of the virus.
