14 Premature Babies Delivered At Gulu Hospital In One Day

Premature triplets born at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.

Gulu Regional Referral Hospital has in recent weeks registered a sharp increase in the numbers of preterm babies being delivered at the facility.

On March 25, out of the 17 babies delivered at the hospital, 14 were premature babies.

The babies born too early include two sets of triplets, and three sets of twins.

The preterm babies birth weights were between 1.5- 1.8 kilograms.

They are currently receiving treatment at the Neonatal Intensive Care unit of Gulu Regional Referral hospital.

Dr Florence Oyella Otim, the In-Charge of Pediatric department at the hospital attributed the rising number of premature babies being delivered at the facility to Malaria, self-medication and Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs).

Dr Oyella accordingly encouraged expectant mothers to always seek for medical help incase they develop health problems.
