Police in Nwoya District have arrested a 47-year-old man allegedly for defiling s5year old girl.
David Ochira, a resident of Onyomtil village, Ywaya parish in Anaka Sub County is allegedly to have sexually assaulted the 5-year-old girl on Monday. He is currently being held at Nwoya Central Police Station where the case is registered vide CRB Number 347/2021.
According to Arach Hellen Ocitti, the local council one chairperson Onyomtil B village, the suspect took advantage of the victim’s mother absence from home to defile her.
David Ongom Madong, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the report and said the matter is under investigation.
Police 2020 annual crime report indicates that at least 748 underage girls were defiled in Acholi sub region in 2020. The figure is the sixth highest registered in the country.
According to the Uganda penal code act, section 129 (3) any person who performs a sexual act with another person who is below the age of eighteen years in any of the circumstances specified in subsection (4) commits a felony on conviction one is liable to suffer death. (4) c, if the offender is a parent or guardian of or a person in authority over, the person against whom the offence is committed.
