Locals in Okidi Central village Labongo Amida West sub-county Kitgum district were on Monday left in shock and disbelief after a man attempted self-immolation.
Self-immolation is an action of setting fire to oneself, especially as a form of protest or sacrifice.
Bosco Langoya, in their 30s, is alleged to have locked himself in his house when no one else was at home before setting it ablaze at around 6 pm.
Patrick Odokonyero Olweny, the Okidi parish chairperson, says that Langoya was however saved by the neighbours who rushed and put off the fire.
However, it’s not yet clear what triggered Langoya to commit the botched suicide. Langoya who escaped unhurt, was arrested and taken to Kitgum Central police station and was still being held.
According to the Penal code of Uganda, any person who attempts to kill him or herself commits a misdemeanour.
