Prosecution of defilement cases at Gulu Chief Magistrates Court is being frustrated by defilement victims.
According to the office of the state prosecutor, many girls who are brought to court on simple defilement turn around and support their defilers by denying that they don’t know them.
The Senior State Prosecutor for the Chief Magistrate Court, Jerom Angena said that some of the girls support their defilers because they want to keep the relationship.
He added that some of the girls also raise their age and turn against their parents when in court.
Angena noted that 10 cases of defilement are heard every week in Gulu, out of which 6 are aggravated defilement and 4 are simple defilement.
