Victims Of Crime Sharing Same Cells With Suspects At Nwoya CPS

Omony Denis

Due to limited space, law enforcement officers at Nwoya central police station have been accommodating victims of crime together with suspects.

Ocen Andrew, the officer in charge of child protection unit, says the most affected are victims of Gender Base Violence (GBV).

According to Ocen, women who suffer GBV are being confined in the same police cell with other inmates for safety as police investigate their cases.

Ocen adds that due to lack of space law enforcement officers are also being forced to take with them at home abandon children.

Police at Nwoya central police station also lack office space. It’s only the district police commander, the district crime intelligence department, and the officer in charge of the station who are not sharing offices.
