By Tolit Ivan-President Yoweri Museveni this afternoon declined a request by NRM supporters a in Omoro district to have him as the sole National Resistance Movement party Presidential candidate in the 2026 general election.
The president who was in the district this afternoon was asked by a section of voters led by the Omoro district L.C V Chairperson Okello Douglas Peter Okao presented with a board on which he was asked to sign committing that he will contest in the 2026 presidential race.
His motion was supported by the Omoro district Woman Member of Parliament Catherine Lamwaka and MK Modern Organic and Natural Products Director Pascal Osiri who were then joined in ululation by dozens of voters.
Museveni who was touring MK Modern Organic and Natural Products Farm and factory owned by Dr. Pascal Osiri in Keto Village, Lakwana Sub County instead asked the residents and leaders to focus on the fight against high poverty rate in the region saying he did not want to be diverted.
Robinah Nabanjja, the Prime Minister however, convinced the electorates and leaders that she will take the initiative to endorse the President`s sole candidature.
The President later visited another farm in Paicho Sub County and Oding Youth Skilling Hub in Unyama Sub County, all in Gulu district.
