Four Vendors Injured Lamwo Accident

Four traders are nursing serious injuries at Kitgum General Hospital after falling off a truck they were travelling in along Paloga- Kitgum Road in Lamwo District.

The traders were returning from a market day in Paloga Sub County in Lamwo District on Thursday evening at around 5PM.

The injured have been identified as Timothy Okeny who is in critical condition at Kitgum General Hospital, Joan Aciro aged 22, Phillip Onono aged 22 and Lillian Aculu aged 37- all residents of Kitgum Municipality.

Police has since launched investigations into the cause of the road accident involving a Fuso truck Registration Number UAX 730 A.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the report saying the vehicle has been towed to Kitgum Central Police Station.

This is the second serious road accident registered in Acholi sub region in the last two days involving traders.

On Wednesday, six local traders were injured along Apaa- Adjumani Road after the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and rolled downhill into River Apaa.

Police says that the vehicle registration number UAU 932G rolled back downhill into the bridge after the mechanical problem.

Four of the injured were rushed to Lacor Health center III in Amuru district while two are admitted at St. Marys’ Hospital Lacor in Gulu city.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region police spokesperson identified the four victims at Lacor Health Center 111 as Jackline Akello, a 36-year-old resident of Layibi in Gulu City, Lydia Aryemo, a 27-year-old from Omoro, Santo Nyeko-a 30-year-old resident of Labongogali in Amuru, Samuel Okello, a 43-year-old resident of Mutema- also in Amuru district.

The accident has been attributed to overloaded of the vehicle with cassava and rice coupled with poor driving.

Meanwhile, the yet to be identified driver was still on the run by press time while the vehicle was yet to be retrieved from the bridge.
