Another elderly woman has died of hunger-related complication in Geregere sub-county, Agago district, bringing to nine such cases in the sub county in 40 days.
The deceased, identified only as Adwee, in her 70s and a resident of Yenglebi village, died on Monday at around 9:00am.
Jennifer Atimango, a resident of the same area who reported the death, said the deceased was abandoned by her family without any help.
Last month, a 78 year old man in the neighboring Kenya central village in Agengo sub county also died due to hunger-related complications.
This comes at a time when the office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has started distributing relief food to the most affected in the district.
On Monday, OPM distributed relief food items to at least 1400 hunger stricken households in the district.The beneficiaries are from the sub-counties of Geregere, Lira-palwo, Omot, Arum, Lamiyo, Agengo, and Lira-palwo town council.
Most parts of Acholi. Lango and Karamoja sub regions are grappling with severe food crisis as a result of climate change which has affected food production.
