A 26-year-old woman identified as Layet Mercy was on Wednesday sentenced to 28-years in prison for killing her husband over 10,000shillings.
Prosecution told court that on December 17, 2017, from Okwici village, Akwang subcounty in Kitgum District, Layet unlawfully with malice aforethought caused the death of her husband Patrick Ocan contrary to section 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act.
According to prosecution, Layet and Ocan were fighting over 10,000 shillings after Ocan returned from a drinking joint.
Prosecution said that Layet stabbed Ocan with a kitchen knife before hiding it on the grass thatched roof of their hut.
Gulu Resident Judge, Justice Stephen Mubiru noted that prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that she committed the offense and accordingly sentenced her to 28-years in jail.
