The World Health Organization has gifted Gulu Regional Referral Hospital with a brand new generator to address the long standing power outages at the facility.
The 250 KVA Generator was delivered to the Hospital last week awaiting installation.
Stephen Onyolo, the Hospital Engineer, said the heavy duty generator is capable to produce enough power for the entire hospital including the oxygen plant.
Gulu city has been experiencing persistent power outages since 2013, which has greatly affected the operations of the oxygen power plant which is key in saving the lives of patients in the ICU.
In 2021, the long-serving senior paediatrician, Dr Milly Grace Arach, lost her life to Covid-19 due to a shortage of oxygen resulting from power blackouts.
Gulu Regional Referral Hospital receives an overwhelming number of patients from the eight districts of Acholi, parts of West Nile and the Lango sub region.
