Increasing cases of theft and house and shop breaking in Lamogi Sub County, Amuru district, have been blamed on loan defaulters under pressure to repay their loans.
Over 40 goats have been stolen and over 10 shops and houses broken into in the area in the last two weeks, according to reports.
Atkinson Ojara, the Local council Three Chairperson Lamogi Sub County who doubles as the chairperson of the sub county security committee told Mega Fm that several youths who borrowed loans from local saving groups (Boli-Cup) and financial institutions to purchase motorcycles are failing to pay back their loans.
He said the youth are now under pressure to repay the money so that members can share the savings ahead of Christmas forcing some to resort to animal theft, house and shop breaking.
