Uganda Registers Four New Ebola Cases, Three Deaths

The ministry of health says three new deaths from Ebola Virus Disease and four new cases have been registered today.

The new infections now bring to 11 cumulative cases of Ebola recorded in the last 24 hours and 11 cumulative deaths including confirmed and probable deaths.

Eight of the deaths were from the community while 3 died from Mubende Hospital.

There are currently 25 cases on admission at Mubende Hospital, out of which 6 are confirmed while 19 are still suspected cases.

According to Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the senior Communications Officer at the health Ministery, a rapid response team remains on ground to list and follow up contacts to the confirmed cases adding that total cumulative contacts of 58 people have been listed.

He said the Public has been urged to install hand washing facilities at all public places and report suspected cases to health facilities for timely response.

Ebola outbreaks have occurred in Uganda in 2000, 2007, 2011, 2012 and the largest documented outbreak occurred in 2000–2001 in Gulu District, registering 425 cases and 224 deaths.

The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals and spreads in the human population through human-to-human transmission.
