Three Police Officers Arrested For Extortion, Torture In Otuke District
Police in Otuke District is holding three of their own allegedly for extortion, torture and being drunk while on duty.
The suspects include Constable Boniface Owiny, Julius O Ocen, the officer in charge of Ogete Sub county police station and Constable John Patrick Ameny.
The three were arrested on Monday by the Otuke resident district commissioner Robert Abak after a tip from the community.
They are being accused of extorting money from three businessmen on April, 2, 2020 and torture of residents as well as being drunk.
RDC Abak says the three police officers were found drunk, beating residents and entering people’s houses claiming they were implementing presidential directives.
The RDC adds that the police officers also extorted 350,000 shillings from three businessmen and also closed some of the food stores in the sub county.
Their arrest comes just days after the arrest of 11 officers from the field force unit for torturing 38 suspected commercial sex workers at Elegu border post.
