Student Loan Scheme Application Deadline Pushed

The Higher Education Students Financing Board (HESFB) is considering extending the loan application deadline due to failure by applicants to secure admission letters.
HESFB Executive Director, Michael Wanyama says the new deadline will be announced soon after confirmation that all partner institutions have released admission letters.
Wanyama says most partner institutions, including universities such as Makerere, failed to meet the deadline for releasing their private admission lists and availing admission letters to loan applicants.
He says they had agreed with all partner institutions that their admission lists must be out by today, 22nd July, which was the deadline set by board for receiving loan applications.
While the universities released their admission lists just days before the deadline, the admission letters are not released immediately.
This makes it difficult for applicants since they have to attach admission letters when applying for student loans.
Wanyama urges the institutions to speed up their admission processes because HEFSB cannot entertain student loan applications before the university process is done.
