Stray Hippos disrupt independence celebration in Gulu
Five stray Hippopotami are ruining Independence Day celebrations for residents of Bungatira and Unyama Sub counties in Gulu district.
The hippos reportedly escaped from Murchison Falls National Game Park in June have destroyed over 2,000 acres of crop gardens.
Helen Atto Lajej, the L.C 1 chairperson Unyama A village said the hippos were last night sighted in the areas of Kinene, Pakwelo in Unyama Sub County, Bwobo village and Lawiyadul in Bungatira and in senior quarters in Laroo division.

Recently, a team of Uganda Wild Life Authority rangers camped in Unyama Sub County in an attempt to translocate the hippos.
