Against all odd, six pupils of Aleda Primary School in Paibona Sub County, Gulu district have returned to school to continue their education.
Four of the child parents are boys while two are girls. They prematurely became parents during the two years of lockdown occasioned by Covid-19.
Francis Oyat, the head teacher Aleda primary school says all the six child parents copying well in class adding that one child mother and two child fathers are in candidate class.
Research shows that child parents often drop out of school because of the pressures they experience.
This includes stigmatization associated with early parenting; isolation from peers; and lack of needed support from family, friends, schools, social service agencies, and other organizations.
Oyat however said that they managed to have the child parents back in school through partnering with private partners to provide counselling and scholastic materials to the pupils.
He says they are encouraging the pupils to finish schools and better their lives in the future.
According to a report by Comboni Samaritans of Gulu, a faith-based organization, more than 17,000 girls in the eight districts of Acholi became mothers during the covid-19 lockdown.
