President Yoweri Museveni has on Tuesday fulfilled his pledge by donating 200 million shillings to crime preventers in Acholi and Lango sub regions for income generating projects, with each region taking 100 million shillings.
In 2016, President Museveni pledged to support crime preventers across the country with 14.6 billion shillings for poverty alleviation projects. Of the 14.6 billion shillings, Acholi and Lango sub regions, with 20 SACCOs are to get 2 billion shillings. Acholi sub region with nine SACCOs was allocated 900 million shillings while Lango with 11 SACCOs was allocated 1.1 billion shillings.
Addressing the crime preventers at Sr. Samuel Bakar secondary school in Gulu City Blaise Kamugisha, the National Crime Preventer coordinator, warned the SACCO leaders against corruption saying the law will not spare them.
Lieutenant General Charles Otema Awany, the Reserve Forces Commander who presiding over the function advised the crime preventers to invest the money in profitable ventures.
