Police Recover Gun Used In Gulu Shooting Incident
Police in Gulu district have finally recovered the gun allegedly used in the murder of three people last month in Pece Vanguard, Pece Division, Gulu Municipality.
Corporal Geoffrey Okello, a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier is being tried before the Division Military court martial sitting at the UPDF 4th division headquarters in Gulu over the incident.
He allegedly killed Beatrice Ajok, 52, and her two sons; Dan Joachim Binyang, 18, and Owen Norman, 20 and injured an 8-year-old girl on February 10.
Okello reportedly had a misunderstanding with Ajok’s family, which he accused of grazing goats on his land.
Okello was arrested the following day from his duty station at the Central Guard of UPDF 4th Division Barracks where he was deployed.
Addressing the media on Wednesday Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River region police spokesperson says ballistic experts have confirmed that riffle registration number UG UPDF 565709362, a magazine with 30 rounds of ammunition and 27 cartridges was used in the murder.
