Police investigating death of child at Gulu referral hospital

Police in Gulu have taken over investigations into the alleged sudden death of a 5year old boy suffering from malaria at Gulu referral hospital on Friday.
Jerome Ogenrwot, nursery kid at Police nursery in Gulu municipality, died shortly after being injected with quinine.
He had been referred to the hospital from St Monica clinic in Gulu town when he allegedly succumbed to his illness.
But the deceased parents Mr and Mrs Okwonga Godfrey Binasa suspect the child died of quinine overdose after being injected by an intern physician.
A case SD reference number 49/20/8/2016 has been opened at Gulu central Police station.
On Tuesday, police surgeon Dr Ndiwalana Bernard did autopsy on the body but declined to reveal the findings saying it can only be released in court.
However, the Hospital Principle Administrator Mohamad Mubiru refuted claims that boy died as a result of professional error but of acute malaria.
