Persons Living with Disabilities-PWDs in Gulu district have appealed to the government to construct decent houses for them.
They argue that they do not have the energy to harvest grass and roof their grass hatched houses each time they need repair.
They made the appeal on Tuesday during a meeting attended by Joyce Acan, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Disability representing Northern Uganda, the Aswa County MP Simon Peter Wokorach and State Minister for Disability, Hellen Asamo.
The lawmakers and the Minister were in Acholi to monitor the implementation of the National Special Disability Grant.
Majority of PWDs in Acholi sub-region live in grass thatched huts which are prone to fire and bad weather.
MP Acan noted that better accommodation is essential if PWDs are to live in dignity.
She said she will discuss the matter with the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) so that the living conditions of PWDS are improved.
