Oyam DPC, OC Outpost Arrested For Neglect of Duty


The Oyam District Police Commander, Victor Kule Sassi and the Officer in charge of Akuca police Outpost also in Oyam district, AIP Joseph Odongo were on Tuesday arrested allegedly for neglect of duty and disobedience of lawful orders.

Both Kule Sassi and Odongo are being accused of failing to obey lawful orders that could have averted a fight that left four people dead and three others injured on Monday.

The deceased include Amoja Richard, a 40-year old UPDF soldier, Okeng Cone aged 25, Ojok Vincent 30 and Olek Charles. The injured are Odongo Nicolas, Okello Bonny and Ojok Denis.

Michael Odongo, the North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson has confirmed the arrest of the two Police officers saying they are being held at Lira central police station.

Trouble started on Monday when the deceased went and attacked a man that was hired by Okello Marino- the head teacher of Akuca wii primary school to plough the school garden.

Okello explained that the deceased have for years been claiming that the school land belongs to them until on Monday when community members turned against them.
