President Yoweri Museveni has said there is need to adopt new technologies in the fight against desert locust.
President Museveni noted that only effective tools can win the fight against the destructive insect.
The president made the remark while meeting the Council of Ministers of the Desert Locust Control Organization for Eastern Africa (DLCO – EA) who called on him at State Lodge Nakasero on Friday.
He said when the locust invaded Uganda and caused havoc to residents of Otuke in northern Uganda and Karamoja in 2020, the helicopter provided to fight locusts nearly failed.
According to the president, the challenge in the fight against the locust was that chopper cannot fly at night.
Desert locusts are the world’s most destructive migratory pest.
A single swarm can travel up to 90 miles a day, have 80 million locusts and eat the same amount of food per day as 35,000 people.
