A man filmed mercilessly beating his grandmother in Omoro district was on Tuesday finally arrested following a public outcry.
Brian Okello alias Ocii Muyini in his mid-30s is seen in a video which went viral on social media beating his grandmother Anek Lucy with a big stick at their home in Amilobo village, Ongako Sub County in Omoro district.
William Ocitti, the L.C111 Chairperson Ongako Sub County says that Okello Ocii assaulted his grandmother at around 3:00pm on Easter Sunday accusing her of refusing to give him part of the 6million shillings she had got two days ago from selling off a piece of their ancestral land.
Okello was arrested at around 2am today while hiding next to an abandoned grass thatched hut in the neighborhood after two days search by the police.
Ocitti said that Anek who was rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital with bruises on her body and swollen eyes was later discharged while Okello is held at Koro police post.
A police officer attached to Koro police post confirmed that Okello is in their custody adding that his file is being prepared.
Reports say that the suspect is a drug addict and an alcoholic who has been assaulting his grandmother on several occasions and forcefully taking her money.
According to the penal code act of Uganda, any person who commits an assault occasioning actual bodily harm commits a misdemeanour and is liable to imprisonment for five years.
