Kitgum district COVID-19 Task force has banned vending of fruits on streets of Kitgum town as one of the measures to prevent the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19.
According to the Task force, most fruits venders move from one place to another which makes it easy for Covid-19 patient to transmit the disease easily.
William Komakech, the Kitgum district Task force chairperson who is also the RDC Kitgum says fruits hawkers pose a big threat to the communities.
Kitgum district has an estimated over 150 fruits hawkers operating within Kitgum municipality.
Meanwhile, the prices of passion fruits have drastically fallen in Gulu district due to the current Covid-19 lock down.
A sack of passion fruits went down from 600,000 shillings to 200,000 shillings.
A heap of passion fruits that use to be four for 2,000 shillings before the lock down is now eight for the price.
Betty Kualume, a dealer at Gulu main market says the number of people coming to buy passion fruits went down after the lockdown.
