KACITA Puts Parliament on Notice over Landlords

City traders have threatened to put down tools next month if government fails to table a bill regulating landlords and rental fees before parliament.
The traders under their umbrella body Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) made the warning during an interface with parliament’s trade and industry committee yesterday.
The traders led by Everest Kayondo the chairperson KACITA described the relationship between landlords and traders as a time-bomb waiting to explode.
They explained the harsh environment city landlords subject them to ranging from arbitrary increase in rental dues to overcrowded trading premises.
Kayondo informed the committee that a proposed piece of legislation known as the Landlord-Tenant bill 2013 had been floated by the lands ministry and several stake holders had been invited to contribute to the bill which has since been shelved.
