Seven grass thatched huts were on Thursday torched down in Obul village, Orum Parish, Lii Sub County in Nwoya district in a revenge attack following the death of a woman who reportedly ingested poison.
Ajok Rose aged 45 died on Wednesday from St Mary’s hospital Lacor in Gulu City and her body was taken home on Thursday.
Her relatives who suspect she was killed turned violent and invaded her husband’s home at around 3 pm on Thursday and looted seven cows.
Police who were called fired two live bullets in the air to disperse the attackers.
Kenneth Agaba, the officer in charge Nwoya central police station told Mega FM that nine people were arrested.
He identified them as Ojara joe Bodo, Ojok innocent, Okello Christopher, Akello Beatrice, Agenorwot Concy, Alimogum Vicky, Apio prosy, Akello Sharon, and Amarorwot Beatrice- all from Pabit clan in Koch Kalang.
Ongom Simon Okwigi, the local council three of Lii Sub County said relatives of the deceased became violent after medical personnel who conducted the postmortem declined to handover the results to them.
