High And Low Of New Year Celebrations In Gulu

The aftermath of the New Year celebrations have started emerging a cross Aswa River Region including the death of two people in motor accident.

The two log dealers who were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned in Palaro sub county, Gulu district last night.

The vehicle registration number UAN 235Q-167 UDR over turned in the areas of Larubi Oroko village, leaving two others with serious injuries.

Meanwhile, traffic flow along Gulu-Kampala highway at Koro-Abili and Gulu-Nimule highway at Lacor trading center were on New Year interrupted by a group of youth.

According to reports, a group of rowdy youths blocked the two highways for several minutes and damaging windscreens of number of vehicles.

John William Eciru, the officer in charge of Koro police post confirmed the report but said no has been arrested in connection to the incident.

Despite the increment in the prices of beers, all the available beer brands were sold off in Amuru town council, Amuru district on New Year.

A bottle of senator beer was being sold at 3,000 shillings from 2000 shilling and Nile, Club and Guinness at 4,000 shillings from 3,000 shillings.

Local alcohol “waragi” was at 3,000 shilling from 2,500 shillings a bottle.

At Omee sub ward in Amuru sub county, Amuru district a woman identified as Ayaa Rose survived losing her arm after her husband identified as Olok John aged 55, cut her using a machete during a fight.

At Limu sub ward in Laroo division, Gulu municipal local authorities on New Year hosted a group of youth to a party for good behavior and fighting wrong elements from the area.

Geoffrey Okello Lagaro, the local council one chairperson of Limu sub ward says they plan to host another feast for the mothers and girls on women’s day.

At Omee village, Amuru Sub County in Amuru district, a18 year old man identified as Lok-Lobo Charles lost three tooth after a fight over a handkerchief.

Lok Lobo was beaten by three boys identified only as Munu, Opige and Okwee who accused him of theft of handkerchief that they found tied on his neck.

Also on New Year, a man identified as Quinto Okello survived being lynched allegedly after attempting to kill his girlfriend in Ogwari village, Odek Sub County, Omoro district by setting the grass thatched hut she was in on fire.

Kevin Ejang was rescued by neighbors but all the properties inside the hut were destroyed.

At Negri village, Bardege division in Gulu Municipality 40 year old man identified as Opiyo Ayuk was beaten seriously by unknown people.

Opiyo is currently admitted at Gulu regional referral hospital.

Meanwhile, Community of Omiya Pachwa in Agago district lit dry grass to usher in the New Year.
