A 47-year old man in Angaba village, Labwoch parish in Omoro district identified as Peter Ojok is on the run after setting ablaze his girlfriend’s two grass thatched huts accusing her of denying him sex.
Ojok reportedly set the huts on fire at around 2:00am on Monday while his girlfriend Beatrice Akello was away.
Akello’s 14-year old daughter luckily made an alarm alerting neighbours who managed to put out the fire and save some of their property.
Ojok who has been living with Akello and taking care of her four children was said to be angry that she was spending more time out of home with a new man.
George Ojera, the Labwoch parish defense secretary said that Akello who lives with her parents had publicly declared that she no longer wanted Ojok in her house which could have angered the suspect
According to section 327 of the Uganda penal code act, any person who wilfully and unlawfully sets fire to any building or structure, whether completed or not commits a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life.
The family has however not yet reported the case to police for unclear reasons despite being advised to do so.
